IELTS Speaking Questions – Work,Workplace

1. Describe the company or organization you work for?

I work for the Energy Development Corporation (EDC). It is a company that focuses on renewable energy development.

2. What is your position?

I am part of the geophysical study team. I am a geologist

3. What are your responsibilities ?

Our team is responsible for determining if a significant resource is present and for collecting and analysing samples in the research area.

4. What do you like about your job?

The best part of my job is that I can travel and discover places that I would otherwise not be able to see.

5. What do you dislike about your job?

Doing projects in remote areas means being away from my family for several days. So I don’t spend a lot of time with my wife and kids. I miss her so much.

6. How many hours do you work each day ?

When I am in the field, I spend several hours traveling to the area, then the survey usually takes a couple of days and sometimes even weeks. When there is no fieldwork, I usually work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the office.

7. What would be your ideal job?

My ideal job is something that always brings something new to life, not repetitive monotonous work. I’m good at my responsibility, but I also expect some pleasant moments in my workplace.

8. Which jobs are the most respected in your country?

In my opinion, these are highly skilled professional positions, such as in the fields of law, medicine, and engineering. Usually, parents encourage their children to undertake those careers, because when working in these domains, one always has a good salary and bright prospects. I specifically respect doctors, as they are not only hard-working professionals but also people who dedicate their lives to helping others.

9.Some people say it’s better to work for yourself than be employed by a company. What’s your view?

Regarding self-employment, I agree with a Chinese billionaire, Jack Ma. It is wiser for young people to first look for a secure position in a smaller company, as the youngest graduates in large companies often get lost in the large system and routine. On the contrary, in a family business, it is easier to take advantage of opportunities and take initiatives to seize them. As you grow, it is important to focus on learning and developing hard skills. When the subjective limit of learning is reached, one might reconsider career choices in favor of a more responsible place in a larger company or even the difficult journey of entrepreneurship

10. What changes in employment have there been in recent years in your country?

In our country the “entrepreneurship” has rejuvenated: More and more people are committed to starting their own business. The “start-up” community is now more vibrant than ever, even college students setting up their start-up company. Although there is a high failure rate of start-ups, people still take the risk and put their ideas into practice Creation one.
